    Upgrading PS3... AGAIN.

    My damn voracious appetite for content has me searching the net for local HDD deals. I'm also considering buying online... anybody got any good reco's for a good place to find them?

    I'm thinking pricewatch.com.

    I went from a 60 to a 160. I have 4GB left. I could pick up a 250GB anywhere locally for around $60... I mean I do already have my 80GB of music on it... but if I went bigger (500 to 1tb) I should be good indefinitely... unless I start copying video to it and using it that way... which may be cool.

    Supposedly, speed doesn't matter, as the benefits of 10000RPM drives arent utilized on PS3's... 5400 is it. But its just a 2.5" SATA... and the hunt begins!

      Do you have to re-download all your PSN titles when you do that?

      Is going external an option?

        Good find man. What do you keep on that thing. I'd like to get 500gb+ at some point but I'd also like to put Linux on my PS3 which is what I would like to do with it. Then I can at least run emulatiors off the linux OS.

          @dooku

          You COULD re-dl, but I just use the backup utility to an external. Externals are always an option, but then you have more cords. I have 7 externals of varying sizes, but I use them as backups only for video projects... I don't think you can play games from them or anything but for music and such they would be fine... the backup utility is SLOOOOOW, but it works flawlessly. The PSN ID and all that aren't stored on your HDD, so you could just swap and redownload, but you'd lose all your gamesaves.

          @Rage
          I have about 80GB of music, whatever free videos and whatnot, and a SHITLOAD of PSN games. I also have a LOT of PS3 games, and the ones that hit you with an install are 4-5GB each, plus all the game saves and stuff. It adds up.

            Keyer, keep an eye on the speed of that drive. I read a few places that no one knows how well or long the PS3 can keep up with a 7200rpm drive. The original was a 5400. So make sure that you keep it with a 5400........just fyi

              Yup, it's a 5400. But thanks for the heads up... I checked it before I ordered... a 7200 is whats in there now with no issues... but I read that you don't get the performance bump unless you go to SSD, and that just isnt worth the cost for the tiny bump.

                yeah with the memory capability on the PS3, everything is put there anyways. And if the game has to load from the HDD (ex SOCOM) then it waits for everyone else to be sync'd up as well. The mem bandwidth on the PS3 is wicked. Just not utilized yet

                          My PS3 has been upgraded to a 320 HDD with 7200 rpm and I haven't had any problems. I did my research on this and there's little difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm (for the PS3) so there's no reason a HDD with 7200 rpm would cause damage.

                          That's not a bad deal Keyser. I could only imagine the amount of stuff you have on your HDD for you to need that much space lol.

                            Oh damn I was just about to ask him for those. I could uses a bigger drive....ha

                            I'm starting to feel the choke of the drive getting to me. I've managed to DivX the orginal episodes 3,4,5 of Star Wars. But have resorted to using Winamp Remote Play to stream the rest of my movies.
