    Laptop Situation

I'm beginning to see how amazingly difficult it is to buy a laptop with everything I need on it. Apparently it doesn't exist. Not on NewEgg... not on all the major manufactorer's sites... not on amazon. My laptop is a wasted dream. Poop.

Yeah Alienware laptops are really great from what I hear. I don't have one but I don't ever hear anything bad about them.

I looked at the specs for the M17x that is on that link that soverign posted and that looks very nice. Two 1 GB ATI video cards, Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, thats some mmm hmmm.

I would get it and wipe the hard drive and put Ubuntu on it and call it a day.

        2.4Ghz processor or better
        2Gig RAM or better
160GB 7200RPM Hard Dive or better
        15.4" screen or bigger
NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M Video Chipset w/ 512MB Video RAM or better

It MUST have all of this or better. can't nix on one and compensate with another.
at newegg, they have the option to search for your laptop via specs... but none of the specs I wanted were within one laptop.

IE I got to say the specs posted above are really nothing out of the ordinary. Alienware will probably have what you want but it does have a pricetag.

I'm sure you'll find it there. If you can find something with expandable memory past 4 then you'll be set for a while.

the only problem I'm running into with websites is the wait. I can totally buy an alienware and be happy with it for a long time... but it'll take some time to get to me. OR i can go to best buy this week and bring the laptop home that day... I think i'll just stick with best buy. I don't think I'll be playing Crisis anytime soon... so I probably don't need a super computer.... yet.

If you don't mind buying used, try Craigslist first. You can get stuff for incredibly low prices and with decent to high-end specs if you don't mind a few scratches.
