Well this is truly unfortunate but Yes you can just swap your HDD into the new one. I would recommend swapping the HDD updating your trophies then copying your games saves on a thumbdrive. then swap the HDD and coping everything back on the new HDD.

Then you put your old PS3 in a box and mail it to meeeee......lol for the sake of research of course.

But that should be all the steps you need to do.

I told the guy from work that he can have my bricked ps3 for helping me. If he doesn't want it, then I will send it to you (minus the hard drive). All I ask is that you mail me a check for the cost of the shipping. I will let you know.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The Sony tech guy I talked to when my XMB bricked said that when you swap HDD's it will always wipe on the install even in the same format. IDK he was just blowing smoke up my ass or what.

You can always resynch your trophies, they will always be there as long as you know your login info. And you can re-DL anything you've purchased up to 5 times.

              Sorry to hear man.

All you have to due is type in your old email and password into the new one when creating a online in game name. It will ask if you want to use an existing name and type in that information. I got back all the trophies and stats from almost all the games. Plus the stuff you downloaded all you have to do is go back to your cart on the Playstation store and re-download it.

But I lose all the saved game data unless I swap my data from my 60gb hard drive over to my 120 gb.

OR maybe I can start entirely from scratch and make up a new PS name. Could this be the end of jmhc74.

Well Jim if you start a whole new name. You won't be able to download anything you downloaded in the past and loose all those downloaded games. That would really suck. but You can always use your original account and then open a new account under the original.

There is a way around the download info. As long as he has his old name and downloads everything then he can create a new name and he will still have all the downloaded stuff.

If game save data is all you're concerned about transferring, a USB flash drive should be sufficient. If you also want (which I assume you do) your 'game data' which includes downloaded updates for games (cough, Socom), it may be a large amount of data. You should go check those 2 folders above your trophies on the game tab of the XMB and see how much space you need. A USB drive may do it.

As far as trophies and downloaded games go, Shocker has it correct, you can get it all back quite easily (though slow if you've downloaded a lot) using your jmhc login info.

A new screen name means starting from scratch stat-wise in all your games too. You can't break up the wonder twins ;)

I think I had approx. 15gb left on my original 60gb ps3. The game save data can not be more than 1gb...right. So its all the updates from socom and other stuff like the beta from MAG that must be taking up all the room. I can really care less about the game data since this it will be more of an inconvenience when I play each game for the first time and will have to download all those freakin updates. So...the million dollar question is how to you transfer only the game save data and not the game data. When looking at some vids on youtube I saw that you can do a system backup but I am assuming that is everything which will be well over 10 gb for me.
