    I think my PS3 just died...HELP

Ok...was playing Socom last night and was playing horrible. In disgust I just quit via the turn system off from the PS button and that was the last time I played. About 10 minutes ago I tried turning on my PS3 and it turned (green light) for about a couple of seconds and then it beeps and then all I get is a flashing red light (on the console). It keeps flashing a red light until I touch on/off switch where you insert the disk and then it goes to power off mode. I keep trying to turn it on and it just does the same thing. It seems like the PS3 just won't "turn over"....it doesn't stay on long enough to where I see the XMB. I don't really see a blinking yellow light...agghh damn.

Mother fucker...I'm going to look on the PS website. I'm not a techy so if the freaking thing is bricked I'm going to have a hard time backing up/swapping out my current hard drive to the new one.

Well brother the HDD is the least of your worries. Swapping it out will keep everything intact. So long as it's not a HDD failure. I would suggest taking it out and inserting it into another PS3 and then copying your data. I hope it's under warranty just in case you have to send it in.

I have to check mine out cuz I think the video is messing up but I still haven't had the chance to take it to someone elses TV to make sure if it is the PS3 or the Old TV I have.

My PS3 is a 60gb bought at launch..so no warranty there. I went onto youtube and and unfortunately its the ylod. BTW..why the fuck do they call it the YLOD. The Yellow light only briefly (it come on for a mila second) comes on....sort of misleading when you are trying to diagnose. It's more of a blinking red light!!!

I have a co-worker that knows his stuff (it admin) so I'm going to take my ps3 in and have him look it. Reading up on it could be 3 things: 1) hard drive failure 2) power source failure 3) mother board is fucked...or whatever the hell they call it. I'll have the guy from work swap out my hard drive and put it in his to see if that is the case. If it not , then I'll have to go out and buy a new PS3. I rather would get a PS3 slim then save $150 to get it refurbished.

Well you should know by now if you ever want to unload it on me. I'd put it to good use. It could also be the Video chip or processor has lost contact. I think I can fix that but Of course I don't have a console to experiment on.....I hope it's just HDD failure.

I wonder if this is just for launch models or if ps3s just start to go after a couple of years.

Got a question for you guys....I can just swap out my hard drive (if it is ok) from my 60 gb and put it into the new ps3 slim. From a saved game standpoint (mother fucker...I worked to hard for those freakin trophies) this is a temporary fix until I am able to transfer my data (60gb) to the ps3 slim hard drive. I am sorry if this seems so trivial for some of you guys; you just got to understand that while I am good at things like accounting, computer and stuff like this is all greek to me.

@ Zabka.....maybe that is the case. I bought mine on 12/22/06, may she rest in peace. Never really gave me problems and I have it located in my finished basement so its typically cooler down there than on the 1st and 2nd floor. I had it on a glass entertainment shelf but the whole front and back is open. I am a very neat and orderly type of guy so I usually keep things clean. From a standpoint of systems bricking...the problem with the PS3 is that not only did I use it from a gaming standpoint, but I love watching my blue-rays on my big screen. Maybe this added to its demise.....regardless, she died.

I'm suprised that I didn't throw a tantrum...maybe because I used it so much that I thought I got my monies worth out of it eventhough, IMO, it should last at least 5 to 6 years. I contribute the factor that I didn't drop f-bomb after f-bomb is that the price has come done considerably. Seriously, what am I going to do. I can scream to the heavens and it won't bring back my PS3....I can post a million threads on PS forums and it won't bring back my PS3..I can call Sony a million times and they won't give me a new ps3 (a refurbished one for $150)...although I will call to complain about the life cycle.

This has been happening to 1st wave models (from what I read). I still have a 1st wave system that works just fine, but have a 300G HDD. Jim, you might be able to get a refurbished one. It's a bit cheaper, but you might just want to go ahead and look for a new one.

Sorry for your loss...maybe you'll decide to stop TK'ing now. ;)

If the ps3 was still at 400 or 500, I would get it refurbished. But at 300 its just makes sense to get a slim. Slim has a bigger hard drive and I get another ds3 and I don't really care about playing ps2 games because I traded all of them in.

BTW..I think Eagle hexed my ps3 because I favored saving Mike over him on Uncharted 2.
