What is a good way to refer to the bases on Supremacy?
Both teams are fighting for the same bases, but they don't have names. And the bases represent a different position on the map for each side, except the Middle Point which is the same for both. There is a linear relativity and so we should describe them in linear terms, forward and back.
There are five command points, and the team who holds at least 3 of 5 wins the match. At any point in time there are two adjacent bases of contention, one being held by each side.
"Their point" = the current enemy base being attacked
"Our point" = the current enemy base being defended
When referring to points outside of the current contest how about these names:
"The Far Back Point" - the last friendly point, if taken causes loss of the map to the enemy. When a team holds only this point they are spawning far back behind all of the points.
"The Near Back Point" - the point in-between the last friendly point and the Middle Point
"The Middle Point" or "Midpoint" - the starting point that is initial point of contention at the start of the map. Whoever holds this point when time runs out wins.
"Near Forward Point" - the point between the Middle point and the Far Forward Point. If a team holds this point at the time runs out they win the map.
"Far Forward Point" - the final point in enemy territory. When this point is under contention, the enemy will spawn far back behind all of the points. When a team takes this point they win the match.
Although the progression of CPs is always captured/lost in a linear fashion, some maps have CPs that are not placed linearly. The pattern of CPs zig-zags as the map is traversed.
I am not sure if I can tell North from South as well as I can tell Left from Right when considering the direction of attack and defend between any two points. It is always very clear which is "Their point" and "Our Point" because these points are marked in every player's view. So it may be helpful to refer using these terms "Left, Right, Center, Front, Flank, On, or Just Off" when describing attack vectors or positions relative to "Their Point" or "Our Point" And the position assumes a linear orientation between the two active points, when the progression is zig-zaggy.
As a side note, I don't like to refer to the "middle point" as the "center point" because I'd like to reserve the word "center" to describe relative position between any points on the map.
I hope that any of this makes sense or is helpful. Anyone have other ideas to add?
I would like to hear from others some descriptive information about particular maps and their features. Some things are obvious to me like "Behind the Sand Crawler" but there are some things I have a hard time describing. It would serve us well to codify and simplify our descriptions of things.
